Cybersecurity

In today’s digital landscape, many of us have experienced the unsettling reality of having our personal information compromised.  This may be through corporate hacks or other online tactics. At KPPA, we prioritize the security of your information. We have layers of security protocols that are designed to keep your personal information safe, but we need your help.

Here are three things you can do: be aware, be cautious, and be skeptical.

  1. Be aware that bad actors are targeting you to get access to your personal information. For instance, your email contains sensitive information about your online accounts. Once they have access to your email, they have access to a wealth of your personal information.
  2. Be cautious and change your email passwords often and use unique passwords for each online account you have.
  3. Be skeptical about unusual emails, text and app messages that ask you to reset a password or share a code, particularly if it is something you did not initiate. If this happens, don’t click on the link provided but instead go separately through your email provider’s app or type in the specific website to change the password or check on your account.

How KPPA Protects Your Data

Cybersecurity and the security and protection of your personal data is a top priority. Here are some of the mechanisms in place at KPPA to help safeguard your data:

  • Limited Employee Access: At KPPA, member information is only accessible to employees with a legitimate business reason to access this information. Our ‘least privilege’ policy ensures minimal internal exposure of your personal data.
  • Data Encryption: KPPA uses various encryption processes when data is transmitted or at rest.
  • Frequent Security Audits and Assessments: KPPA regularly conducts internal and external audits to ensure our systems meet or exceed industry security standards. We continuously assess and improve security measures to keep up with evolving threats.
  • Employee Training: Our staff is our first line of defense. Every member of the KPPA team receives quarterly trainings in data security and privacy to ensure they are aware of best practices and emerging threats.

We encourage all our members to practice personal data security as well. This includes regularly changing your passwords, avoiding suspicious emails or links, and monitoring your personal accounts for any irregular activity.

Cybersecurity and You

We have layers of security protocols in place, but you play a critical role in securing your personal information. We encourage all our members to practice personal data security as well. This includes regularly changing your passwords, avoiding suspicious emails or links, and monitoring your personal accounts for any irregular activity.

Cybersecurity can be overwhelming for some. However, what if you could easily take control of your safety today? If you focus on a few key things, you can make a positive impact on your cybersecurity wellness. Here are some essential tips:

Create Unique Passwords for Everything

Ensure each of your online accounts has a unique password. If one account is compromised, the bad guys will not be able to get into your other accounts. This is especially true for your email accounts, as they often contain information about other transactions like your bank accounts or other financial activities. A password manager can help you create and manage these unique passwords.

Be Wary of Everything You Receive

Be cautious with everything you receive in both email, phone calls, and mobile texts, especially if it causes you to feel a sense of urgency, includes links or attachments, or if you are not familiar with the sender's address. Scammers often use these tactics to trick you into revealing personal information or clicking on malicious links.

Browse the Internet Safely

When browsing the internet, only go to secure sites. You can confirm this by checking if the URL starts with "https://" or has a lock symbol next to it. If you are on a site and a window pops up with an urgent message, it is best to close out of that site immediately.

Do Not Share Personal Information

Avoid sharing any personal information via email, text, phone calls, or social media. Scammers can use this information to steal your identity or access your accounts.

These are just a few steps you can take to improve your cybersecurity. While they might seem simple, they can have a major impact on your overall security. Be sure to research these tips further to better understand why these recommendations are so important. Your digital safety is in your hands, and with a little effort, you can significantly reduce your risk of cyber threats. Stay safe!
