The 9-member County Employees Retirement System (CERS) Board of Trustees comprises six trustees appointed by the governor and three elected by CERS members. All three elected trustees must be members of or retired from CERS, two must have had a majority of their service credit earned in CERS in a Nonhazardous position and one must have a majority of his or her service credit earned in a Hazardous CERS position.
Gubernatorial appointees are chosen from lists compiled and submitted to the governor by the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC), the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo), and the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA). Each of the three entities must submit three applicants with retirement experience and three applicants with investment experience. The governor appoints one person with retirement experience and one person with investment experience from KLC, KACo, and KSBA.
All appointments by the governor are subject to Senate confirmation.
The Chief Executive Officer ensures the Board of Trustees operates efficiently, develops system policies and procedures, and collaborates with the KPPA administrative staff on critical system administration duties.
