The Division of Internal Audit was established in July 2003 as a
service to the Audit Committee, Board of Trustees, Executive Director, and all
levels of management. The Division performs an independent appraisal of
the various operations and systems of control within Kentucky Retirement
Systems to determine whether acceptable policies and procedures are followed,
legislative requirements and established standards are met, resources are used
efficiently and economically, planned missions are accomplished effectively,
and the objectives of Kentucky Retirement Systems are being achieved.
Mission and Objective
The mission of the Division of Internal Audit
Administration is to enhance and protect organizational value by providing
risk-based and objective assurance, advice, and insight.
The objective of the Division of Internal Audit Administration
is to assist all levels of management in the effective discharge of their
responsibilities by providing independent analysis, appraisals, advice, and
recommendations concerning activities reviewed.

The Division of Internal Audit Administration helps to improve
the performance and accountability of Kentucky Retirement Systems by:
Assessing the reliability of financial and operational information;
Evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of various divisions within Kentucky Retirement Systems;
Testing the adequacy of controls to prevent waste and safeguard assets; and,
Verifying compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
