Refund of Contributions

Have you left your job and need to know your options for your account balance?

Click on your Tier, to the right, to see your choices.

It typically takes at least seven weeks from your date of termination to process and issue a refund payment. Payment of your refund can be made directly to you or the funds can be rolled into another qualified retirement plan. If you elect to receive a direct payment, KRS is required to withhold 20% for federal income taxes. The amount withheld is not a penalty tax and will apply towards your federal tax liability for the year in which the refund was issued. Additional taxes due to age or other factors may also apply if you choose to receive a direct payment.

If you are interested in taking a refund should contact KRS for more information, or to obtain a Form 4525, Application for Refund of Member Contributions.
