KRS Executive Leadership Staff Change

We sadly (and maybe a little jealously) announce that Becky Stephens, Executive Director – Office of Benefits, is retiring effective September 1, 2017.  The Executive Director – Office of Benefits position oversees the Member Services, Membership Support, Disability & Death, Retiree Services Payroll, Quality Assurance, and Retiree Health Care Divisions.

Becky transferred to KRS in June 1993 from the Department for Medicaid Services and was promoted to Chief Benefits Officer (now Executive Director, Office of Benefits) in September 2014 after having served the Systems in a variety of positions over the past 24 years.  She has been an integral part of KRS, and her leadership, knowledge, and sense of humor will be greatly missed by our members and KRS associates.

We are pleased to announce that Erin Surratt has accepted the appointment as the Executive Director - Office of Benefitseffective September 1, 2017.

Erin, currently the Division Director Quality Assurance, received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Kentucky.   She started her career at KRS in March 2003 as a Retirement Systems Counselor, where she progressed through the counselor series before joining the Phase 6 START project team in 2008.  She served as a subject matter expert for the Calculations modules while working closely with other KRS business experts to design, test, implement, and train Benefits staff on our line-of-business system which was implemented in 2011.

She transferred to the Division of Information Technology, PMO Office, as a Business Analyst in April 2012 where she continued to serve as subject matter expert for the Calculations modules in support of the Benefits staff.  In July 2013 she became a Retirement Program Manager and then was promoted to Division Director Quality Assurance in March 2016.    The Quality Assurance Division is responsible for pre-retirement and post-retirement auditing of member accounts to ensure data integrity, along with confirming benefit amounts paid to KRS' members are within federal and state statutory and regulatory compliance. The Division is also accountable for the testing and support required for all of Benefits' processes, including those impacted by special business and technology projects.  In all of these positions, Ms. Surratt has excelled.

Please join us in congratulating Becky on her retirement and Erin on her new position within the Kentucky Retirement Systems.
